ABOUT THE SOCIETY
The Hoddesdon Players were founded, as far as we can tell, in 1898 which makes us one of Hertfordshire’s oldest societies. The 1898 rule-book states that the subscription shall be five shillings a year – now £15 – the performers must pay for their own books – they still do! – find their own costumes – they still do!
Since those days we have presented two plays a year in Hoddesdon and since 1975 at the Spotlight theatre, which of course has superb facilities both for the audience and backstage.
We are always looking for new members in all areas of drama and if you would like to join us you will find a warm welcome. Apart from the two main productions we aim to present a revue of sketches and songs in February and we have a programme of play readings and social events. Members are kept informed by our regular news sheet: “Stagewrite”. We rehearse usually on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at St Catherine’s School in Hoddesdon and we store and construct our scenery at the Fairways in Cheshunt jointly with Cheshunt Dramatic Society and EHOS where we have the use of premises by the generosity of the Borough Council.
So there’s plenty to do in putting on plays; there’s acting of course and there’s scenery to build, and plays need properties and costumes and furniture and posters and marketing. We even need people to take photographs and make tea. If you would like to join us and help in any way please contact us by phone or email and don’t worry if you haven’t had any previous experience – none of us did to start with!
You can telephone the secretary, Christine Holt on 01992 465575 or email email@example.com
We look forward to seeing you!
