The Society was founded in 1898 and we believe we are the oldest dramatic society in Hertfordshire. The Players perform two plays a year at the Broxbourne Civic Hall in High Street, Hoddesdon usually in April and November. In November we are presenting 'A Touch of Danger' a thriller by Francis Durbridge. In addition there is usually a revue of sketches and songs performed to lighten the dark months of January and February! We have a full and varied programme of playreadings and social events throughout the year and our Annual General Meeting is held in July. We usually rehearse at St. Catherine's School, Hoddesdon on Tuesday evenings, where there are excellent facilities. We are members of the Broxbourne Arts Forum and the Badger Centre for the Arts, which is a group of three local performing arts societies: Hoddesdon Players, East Herts Operatic Society and Cheshunt Dramatic Society. Our scenery is housed in the Badger Centre which is located in Cheshunt School by kind permission of the headmaster and where there are facilities for building and storing scenery, properties and costumes. We are a small society and we concentrate on presenting plays to the public which are entertaining and which also provide challenges to our members. We are always looking for new members who will receive a warm welcome and we are looking for people who have an interest in any aspect of drama; not just acting but scene building, costumes, behind-the-scenes work or making the tea! If you would like to join us then please e-mail us at Johnelson@hotmail.com or write to the Secretary: Mike Marsh at 18 Westhill Road, Hoddesdon, Herts, EN11 9DB (01992 465665). We also have a thriving Supporters Club who enjoy reduced rates. See left bar. |
